“NETVERAMĀ ROBEŽA” (The Imperceptible Boundary)

Curator: Elīna Ģibiete

“NETVERAMĀ ROBEŽA” (The Imperceptible Boundary), the exhibition featuring works by this year’s baccalaureate and master’s degree graduates from the Art Academy of Latvia, introduces the greater public to the most vibrant graduate projects of 2017 as executed in various artistic disciplines. This selection of young artists, who were awarded degrees for outstanding and excellent academic achievements, resolve in their works the eternal, yet also fragile, questions of existence, individuality, and the impressions of memories and the world around us – by way of tearing down the boundaries between reality and the imperceptible world. At the same time, some of the artworks also move the boundaries of art materiality, teasing the viewer by defying the category of art in which a work supposedly belongs. Paintings that speaks in the language of the graphic arts; textile art that has morphed into sculpture or scenography – the stories and characters on exhibit either consciously or unconsciously play with the inexhaustible boundaries of the art world. By physically crossing over the boundaries of the Art Academy of Latvia, the graduate works on view in the exhibition present to the public the most promising new artists of the year.
