There are places that no-one wants to know about; we love to pretend that they do not exist. Landfill is one of these places. And yet this seemingly unattractive desert of waste is populated by countless living creatures – insects, reptiles, birds and mammals. To them, landfill is a luxury place of residence.

The narrow and sandy strip of seacoast is a sort of no man’s zone, with the sea and land sharing equal rights to it. There is a certain peculiarity to this area: it seems to attract people almost like a magnet, transforming the seashore into something similar to a playground where the old and the new, the primeval and the civilised and the traditional and the modern all rub shoulders.
